Writing intermittently on life, politics, and society

It’s just a little operation. Just a little cut.

The Audit Commission, a council spending watchdog is to be closed down.

That such an organisation is being closed at a time when there is a major push for efficiency and greater control over spending is a little puzzling. However considering the commission’s rows with the new government, resistance to disclosing its own spending, and the part it played in embarrassing the Conservative party during the “Homes for Votes” scandal, I suspect the decision to abolish the commission met little resistance.
